This mechanic is expecting players to already solve the puzzle before they even start it because the brief moments you have to see your progress through the maze need to be used to memorize your next set of turns. Eventually, the camera will come back to show you where your peg has progressed for a few seconds, but it will continue panning, so you’d better remember the next few turns of the maze. Seems easy enough, right? Unfortunately, as soon as you start the maze, the camera will pan slowly around the room so that you can no longer see the maze. The objective is simple: get the peg to the center of the maze. Our protagonist Lloyd is presented with a large round labyrinth hanging on a wall. Timed puzzles are nothing new in gaming, but add to that your inability to see the puzzle for more than a few seconds, and you’ll suddenly find yourself in the most terrifying memory challenge ever. But the most unsettling game mechanic comes in the form of a puzzle near the end of the game. You may actually wonder how the game developers could possibly think of so many ways to alter your perception of reality. This is as close to perfection as the genre has ever gotten, and I highly recommend it.As the game continues to progress, more and more mind-bending and physics-defying mechanics are introduced. Effortlessly weird in the way that dreams tend to be, with some very clever brain-teasers and a couple of action-packed sequences that don't overstay their welcome. If the quality of a game matters more to you, then this is pretty glorious for the cost. As it only takes around four hours or so to finish, and probably half an hour of that was me being stumped by one particular puzzle that didn't do quite a good enough job of communicating it's mechanics.

To be honest: If you're one of those people who consider a short but super sweet experience to be bad value for money, then this will most likely disappoint. Which in a nutty kind of way still make sense. Its bonkers, but in a fun way that's just enough to be challenging without ever breaking it's own rules. So you can on occasion walk up walls and go onto the ceiling, rotate around parts of the environment, or completely twist spaces to reveal new ones. This pushes the nature of what puzzles can be, as it takes place inside the reality of a dream. Alongside some fairly impressive chase set-pieces, it's a really well produced game that will quite nicely tax your wits. With a warped, dreamy atmosphere, that's matched by equally bizarre and yet still logical mental conundrums. I would go so far as to say this is actually better than both of those games. If you are a fan of surreal puzzle games like 'Limbo' or 'Inside' then you should find 'DARQ' to be a very satisfying experience.
